Douglas Barrowman - Chairman

Chairman and Founder, Douglas Barrowman is the driving force behind the highly successful and dynamic Knox group of companies. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Douglas is an experienced businessman who has spent his entire career successfully investing in businesses and real estate. Having worked for the international private equity firm 3i in the late 1980s, he left to set up his own corporate finance practice, which he successfully developed and managed during the 1990s. He sold the practice in 1999 to concentrate on his own private investment vehicle Aston Ventures.

Over the next 10 years, Aston Ventures made 13 acquisitions of old economy businesses with a total turnover in excess of £400 million. Since 2008, Douglas has focused on developing the Knox group of companies that now collectively employs 350 staff and has funds under management and administration approaching £3billion.

Jeremy Franks - CEO

Jeremy Franks joined the Knox group of companies in October 2016 as Deputy Chairman with responsibility for Knox Private Office. Jeremy joined from UBS Wealth Management where he was Managing Director, Head of UK Wealth Planning Advisory and UK Head of Clients and Products Tax. During his time with UBS, nearly 12 years, he worked with family offices, entrepreneurs, hedge fund and private equity principals and assisted them with all aspects of their wealth planning needs.

Prior to working at UBS, Jeremy worked at PWC in their Entrepreneurs and Private Clients and their Tax Technical Teams.

Jeremy is a Chartered Tax Adviser and holds the Advanced Planning Certificates. He sits on the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s (CIOT) Technical Committee for capital gains tax and investment income. He has represented the CIOT and British Bankers Association in consultations with HMRC and HM Treasury. Jeremy is a regular speaker at Private Client Conferences and has frequently provided press comment.

Tim Eve – Director

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance, Tim Eve qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1996. Utilising his vocational training, Tim embarked on a career in Private Equity. His early career focused on advising the owner managed business sector and he successfully led a number of high profile acquisitions and disposals.

In 2004, Tim joined the Knox group of companies’ private equity company as a Partner. He has, over the course of the following decade, been heavily involved in sourcing, completing and managing transactions. In 2014, Tim was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Knox group of companies. Holding Board directorships on many of the Knox group of companies, he assists with their good running, devising and implementing strategy and where appropriate leading on key acquisitions.

Arthur Lancaster - Director

Arthur Lancaster is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser. After qualification Arthur joined Deloitte Haskin & Sells, which became Coopers & Lybrand, initially working in the Private Client and Entrepreneurs Division where he provided tax advice to many high profile clients. Arthur then worked in their Corporate Finance Division where he advised on MBOs, listings and other corporate transactions.

In 1996 Arthur joined Ernst & Young, Isle of Man, and was appointed Head of the tax department and a Director of the trust company. In 2003 Arthur was invited to head up a newly formed Isle of Man Family Office. After successfully dealing with the transfer of the founding family’s affairs from their previous advisers, he built the company into a leading prosperous trust company.

In 2011 Arthur joined the Knox Group of companies, having worked as an adviser to the founder for nearly 20 years. Arthur helped to establish the fiduciary services business and the UK based tax consultancy. Arthur is now Senior Partner of the UK tax practice and focuses on the provision of tax advice to UHNW clients and their UK businesses.

Andra Ilie - Associate Director

Andra works closely with international families, supporting them in managing their businesses, their investments and understanding their aspirations. Her team take a holistic approach when advising their clients, typically focusing on longer term succession planning and family governance. Once articulated, these family goals are then built into Andra’s straightforward and practical advice, often concerning complex questions of cross border businesses and family dynamics.

In 2012 Andra graduated with a BSC in Business Management from the University of Surrey and went on to start her career at Deloitte, in the Private Client Services Team. She spent four years at Deloitte, mostly advising non-UK domiciled ultra-high net worth individuals on structuring their complex international tax affairs. Her clients ranged from creatives and entrepreneurs, particularly in the tech space, to large families, often with challenging dynamics and the need to navigate specific needs.

Andra is ACA qualified and has experience of working in a financial management role for a leading international luxury hospitality chain. She is particularly passionate about using her experience and drive to help entrepreneurs balance their business goals and family needs.


Anthony Page - Fiduciary & Family Offices Services

Anthony Page has spent most of his near 20 year career in the offshore fiduciary environment, much of which has been in senior management roles in both Guernsey and the Isle of Man. He has considerable experience of managing a multi-jurisdictional portfolio of structures on behalf of a number of high net worth individuals, families and corporate entities.

Anthony is the Managing Director of the Knox group of companies’ regulated Fiduciary business. Since 2014 he has headed up the Family Office with a specific focus on the acquisition, maintenance and enhancement of assets. Asset classes are varied and globally based, spanning commercial and residential property, superyachts, aircraft, classic cars, artwork, jewellery and watches, and more traditional holdings such as cash and investment portfolios. Anthony is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and holds a diploma in International Trust Management.

Dan Clay - Business Administration Services

Dan is the Managing Director of the Knox group of companies’ Business Administration Services business. He looks after the affairs of many private clients and owner-managed businesses in a wide variety of sectors. He has a wealth of experience in both corporate and personal tax matters as well as providing ongoing business advice, guiding clients through expansion, consolidation and eventual exits. Dan’s expertise and knowledge in international tax, residency and domiciliary matters is put to great use with clients having greater cross border issues, none so more than the sport and entertainment industry. He is a regular speaker at both the Production Guild and Personal Managers Association as well as many other one off events covering a wide variety of tax issues.

Dan graduated in 1999 moving into taxation shortly after. Having worked for a number of years at a both medium and national sized firms within Media and Entertainment sectors, he moved back to Worcestershire and set up an accountancy practice with his father. He is a member of the Association of Tax Technicians.

John Elder – Investment Consulting

John is Managing Director of the Knox group of companies’ investment consulting practice that provides investment consulting and reporting solutions to private individuals, their families and family offices. He also works with Trust companies to provide investment audit and investment monitoring oversight.

John is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has more than 30 years of broadly based financial services experience encompassing consulting, investment management and financial planning. John serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the boards of a series of investment funds, is a PAM Awards judge, chairs the Private Banking and Wealth Management Steering Group of the Financial Services Forum and is a Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers.

Ed Ogden – Financing Solutions

Ed Ogden has spent over 30 years in the banking industry with over 15 years in senior management roles, predominantly with regional director responsibility and focus. He is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and has extensive experience and knowledge that covers all aspects of corporate finance and banking. Ed has worked with the Knox group of companies for the past few years sourcing, structuring and raising finance for a diverse range of asset acquisitions for both corporate and private clients. He is the Managing Director of the Knox group of companies’ financing solutions consultancy business.

James Porter – Marine & Aviation Solutions

James Porter joined the Knox group of companies in 2015. With over 18 years of experience in the offshore corporate services industry working for 2 large international corporate service providers, James advises international entrepreneurs, expatriates, high net worth individuals and professional intermediaries on all aspects of corporate structuring, specialising in aircraft and yacht ownership, management, registration services, VAT planning and EU importation and exportation services.

Heather Williams – Tax Investigations

Heather Williams is a director in the tax practice of the Knox group of companies. A multi-award winning Tax Investigation and Litigation specialist, Heather has extensive experience in managing and resolving disputes across a broad spectrum of tax, including worldwide disclosures to HMRC and through force of tax intellect has been able to delivery outstanding outcomes for taxpayers. Where resolution is not possible Heather has taken forward cases to the Tax Tribunal, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

Heather is recognized as an outstanding leading professional in tax of her generation being one of Tax Journal’s “40 under 40”, ePrivate Client Practitioner’s “35 under 35” and named as one of International Tax Review’s “Women in Tax” leaders. As a member of the Chartered Institute of Tax Dispute Resolution and Litigation Group, Heather is instrumental in bringing innovative and unique approaches to new HMRC challenges including being at the forefront of challenges to accelerated payment notices and technical errors.

Gary Rowson – Tax Investigations

Gary Rowson is a director in the tax practice of the Knox group of companies. With over 20 years’ experience in both Code of Practice 9 (suspected serious fraud) and Code of Practice 8 (fraud and bespoke tax avoidance) cases, Gary has previously led tax investigation practices at two Top 10 accountancy firms. Gary is an expert in resolving EBT, EFRBS and Disguised Remuneration (DR) disputes with HMRC. He is also a member of HMRC’s Compliance Reform Forum, its Fraud Forum and its Campaigns Group, which all help shape HMRC’s policy around investigation work.

Amit Puri – Tax Investigations

Amit Puri is a Director in the tax investigations and disputes practice of the Knox group of companies. With almost 15 years of focused investigative experience and previously a Senior Inspector of Taxes with HMRC, where he spent 11 years, Amit is uniquely positioned to assist his clients with the most serious investigations, including Code of Practice 9 (suspected serious fraud) and Code of Practice 8 (fraud and bespoke tax avoidance ), where HMRC perceive large sums of tax to be at risk. Prior to his current role , Amit was a senior policy and strategy adviser in Whitehall and led the tax and dispute investigations team in London for a Top 10 professional services firm. Outside of London, Amit has a regular presence in Monaco, Dubai and Mumbai.

Sarah Williams – Property Management

Sarah WIlliams is an Asset Manager. A Chartered Surveyor, Sarah has over 11 years’ experience within the UK Commercial Property market with a focus on business space; office, retail, industrial and mixed use assets.

Sarah has worked predominantly in client side asset management roles on behalf of private property investors and including Castel Commercial Fund, Ashtenne Industrial Fund, Norwepp, Hansteen and Spencer Holdings seeking out value adding opportunities, delivering on strategic asset management initiatives and striving to enhance property performance.

Oliver Shuttleworth - Fine Art

Oliver Shuttleworth is a fine art consultant with over 17 years of experience in the trade. He has extensive knowledge of both auction house and gallery business practices. After eight years at Sotheby’s London, followed by four years at a leading Mayfair gallery and art broker, Oliver Shuttleworth Fine Art was founded in 2014. Oliver has brokered over $40m in works of art including the acquisition of paintings by artists as diverse as Claude Monet, Rene Magritte and Pierre Soulages.


Professor Matthew Goodwin - Politics

Matthew Goodwin is Professor of Political Science and Senior Visiting Fellow at Chatham House. He is the author of six books including the 2015 Poitical Book of the Year, Revolt on the Right, and publications with Oxford and Cambridge University Presses. Matthew specialises in macro political trends and has advised numerous governments and agencies around the world. He appears regularly in international media.
